what is NRV mancamp

New River Valley ManCamp started in Spring 2020 as a means for men to gather together in a no pressure situation, and where we can all just have fun.

It’s not complicated. We eat some food. Stand around a bonfire. Talk about whatever. Play some outdoor games like corn hole, or disc golf, or whatever entertains.

Weekly events will be at a fixed location (barring unforeseen events). They’re NOT typically full meal events, rather snack and low key items such as fruit, veggies, chips, soda and cookies (or whatever last minute thing you pickup on your way over!)

Each month will be a FULL meal event that is themed. We will have a FB event that can be shared, and allows for meal coordination and RSVPs for a head count. End-Of-Year Event will be an overnight, multiple meal event.

What to expect at mancamp

Any guys attending ManCamp are expected to have a good time! There is NO expectation of cost or contribution of food or funds. Donations of money or contributions of food, games are always welcome, but never an expectation or a reason to not come if you cannot contribute. We desire more for men to come and be part of the growing community.

ManCamp is open to any man (18+) in the NRV regardless of race, creed, color, religion, politics or orientation. Boys (12+) are welcome to attend in the company of a male parent, legal guardian, or with any man attending ManCamp.

Common Questions

No there’s no fee. We ask that you consider contributing food, depending upon the type of event we’re having but there’s no necessity for you to bring food.

We meet Tuesdays from 7-9pm. We meet ONLY one week for October through May. Then from June-August we meet each week. Special events, in addition to Tuesday nights, are scheduled throughout the year. For complete details, please visit our Calendar page.

Not really. We only coordinate food on the first Tuesday, and typically we have a theme for the month. The first Tuesday DOES require some coordinating for attendance and food. Other Tuesdays are more casual and don’t require any RSVP. First Tuesdays will always be a Facebook event that will have additional information and RSVP opportunities.

Any male 12 years old or more. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or adult male.

Absolutely! Food is never a requirement of attendance. We get it. Sometimes schedules change and stuff happens. It’s our preference that everyone feel free to attend no matter what.

Honestly, we do not have dedicated options right now for anyone with food allergies (such as gluten free, dairy free, or nut free). We’re open to such options but the need hasn’t arisen yet. We encourage you to bring food options that meet your dietary needs, and please let us know so that we can try to incorporate additional options in the future.

We have a few guys who coordinate the events on a volunteer basis, but no one’s really “in charge” because these aren’t meant to be tedious and overly planned. These are casual gatherings.

No. While several of us who started ManCamp all attend the same church, it is our desire to continue making this event open to any and all who wish to attend.

As best we can, yes we do. We meet outside, in a method that permits social distancing. We encourage masks, and responsible interactions. We also request that if you feel that you may be sick (not just COVID-19) that you refrain from attendance. In the event of foul weather and meeting has moved indoors we would comply with local, state, federal regulations for public health to the best of our ability.

We do not supply alcohol. However, you are welcome to bring some for yourself. Note: hosts reserve the right to take away car keys if we believe you are too inebriated to safely drive home.

We would love this. As. ManCamp is 100% self funded any donations are very welcome. If you wish to submit funds to us, please contact us directly to arrange for a method. We can accept cash, checks, PayPal, gift cards or other donations to help with making ManCamp better. Please use the form at the bottom of the page to securely send us an email so we can followup with you.

We are not a company or a 501c organization so donations given to ManCamp will be used for ManCamp event expenses but we cannot provide a receipt for tax deduction purposes.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have. The best way to have most questions answered is to attend a weekly event and talk to one of the leaders direct. If that is not an option, please use the secure form below to submit your question and we will be happy to reply to you as best we can.
